In this 90-minute presentation (including time for Q&A), we will examine one of the most counterintuitive truths of parenting: that our children's failures may be the very experiences that lead them to their greatest successes. This workshop is specifically designed to address our achievement-oriented culture and help parents understand how to support their children in developing resilience, grit, and a growth mindset.

During this talk, Christy will address:

  •  Success stories of failure—real examples of how setbacks lead to growth;
  •  Why it's not only okay but essential to let children experience age-appropriate failures;
  •  The critical difference between a fixed mindset ("I'm not smart enough") and a growth mindset ("I can learn this");
  •  How to model making mistakes and normalize failure as part of learning;
  •  Specific strategies for helping children find creative solutions to challenges at home, at school, and in life;
  •  Why doing things for our children that they can do for themselves actually undermines their confidence and competence;
  •  How to avoid reinforcing maladaptive reactions to failure (catastrophizing, learned helplessness, or giving up);
  •  The importance of being present in your child's life without being intrusive or controlling; and
  •  Practical ways to encourage children to take healthy risks and learn from the outcomes.

Attendees will walk away with clear, actionable strategies they can use to

parent in a way that encourages growth through failure and builds true resilience in their children.
