spelling bee
Inglewood PTSA presents the 2022-2023 Spelling Bee enrichment program. The PTSA has once again enrolled in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is one of the nation’s oldest competitions. The purpose of the spelling bee is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn new concepts, and develop correct English usage.
Who can participate?
Registration is open to all Inglewood students in grades 6-8.
What to expect?
Student / Parent orientation will be held to provide an overview of the program. Word lists will be provided to the students to prepare on their own. A preliminary written round in January will be held online, and a final oral round in February will be held in person. School Champion, Runner Up, and Grade Level Champions will be selected after the final round. All participants will receive a participation certificate. The school Champion will represent Inglewood at the regionals level.
Like any other enrichment program, volunteers will be needed to run this program smoothly.
Sign-up links will be available online for parents after you register your student.
How to Register?
To register login in to your PTSA account at Inglewood Middle School PTSA - Home Page (membershiptoolkit.com) and go to: Spelling Bee Registration
Note: This registration is to let the Spelling Bee coordinator know that your student will participate, however, there will be another registration needed to take the online spelling bee platform and actual spelling bee contest. Please participate in the orientation for more information.

How does my child prepare?
We will provide the word list and recommended books to read to improve vocabulary from the
Scripps National Spelling Bee recommendation. Parents can encourage their students to use the
Merriam-Webster dictionary and online tools to learn spelling and pronunciation and help
them prepare. Parents can form their own spelling groups and take turns to help your group of
students learn new words. The Spelling Bee Chair will not prepare the student
to participate in this event.
